Te Ao Marama & Weavers of Te Ataarangi
The Matariki Art Series is a collection of Te Ao Māori inspired artworks created by Te Ohu Weka, a collaborative art group based in Te Tauihu and working from Onetahua Marae. This group is guided by nationally acclaimed Māori artists Robin Slow and Mat Tait. Each year we produce a series of artworks, a selection of which are exhibited in community art galleries in the Top of the South.
You will experience light emerging from darkness through stunning collaborative artworks by artist collective Te Ohu Weka, created under the guidance of Robin Slow and Mat Tait.
This exhibition features pieces from the Maramataka Matariki 2025–2026. The artworks respond to Te Ao Mārama, The Enlightened World.
The artists involved considered many forms of light including its hopeful aspects alongside the darkness, because it is only in the darkness that light can be seen.
Together the works reflect the whakapapa thread connecting the past to the present and future.
"Kotahi te aho ka whati, ki te kāpuia e kore e whati”
"A single strand of flax is easily broken,
but a bundle of flax cannot be broken"
This speaks to the strength found in unity and collective action
